Research Overview

  • I am a human geographer with a background in environmental science, migration studies and international development.  My research analyses the intersection between environmental change, agricultural change and human migration, largely through the lens of small-scale farmers in the Asia-Pacific region and Australia.

My early research on the links between environmental change and human migration focused on how environmental degradation/natural disasters lead to human displacement, particularly for farmers. Since then, during my more recent employment on an Australian Research Council-funded project ‘Sustainability and Climate Change Adaptation: Unlocking the Potential of Ethnic Diversity’, I have transitioned my research to a much more positive lens: exploring how migrants contribute to positive environmental and agricultural change in their countries of destination and origin.
